South Korea’s real GDP increased 1% in July–September from the previous quarter, according to advance Bank of Korea data reported by Yonhap on October 27. The year-on-year increase was 3.4%.

Yonhap reported quarterly increases of 2.3% in exports and 4.1% in facility investment, while private consumption fell 0.2%. Those differing components show why the headline growth rate should not be treated as a measure of every household’s experience. Advance estimates can be revised.
