Atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide reached new highs in 2025, the World Meteorological Organization said in its October 27 bulletin.

WMO put the global average surface carbon-dioxide concentration at 426.8 parts per million, 53% above its 1750 baseline. The figure describes gas accumulated in the atmosphere, rather than one year’s emissions. The agency said carbon dioxide’s long lifetime commits the climate to effects extending over decades and centuries.
