Alberta voters rejected a proposal to begin a process toward separation from Canada, according to unofficial results reported by the Associated Press on October 20.
AP reported that about three-quarters of counted votes supported remaining in Canada. The result was provisional, and the ballot did not itself decide whether the province would become independent.
